Moderner Hardcore kann vieles sein: Stumpf, depressiv, ausgefeilt, beschwingt, emotionslos, emotionsvoll und manchmal gar poetisch. Die Top 5 der in meinen Augen poetischsten Bands folgt nun.
5. Verse
Ein Urgestein, wie so viele andere auch aufgelöst - der Fluch der späten '00er-Jahre, wie mir scheint. Sozialkritisch, aggressiv, und immer die richtigen Worte im Kopf - wie viel kann man da schon falsch machen?

4. Ruiner
Für mich der traurigste Split des Jahres: Ruiner waren unersetzbar und werden es für immer sein. Wenigstens bleibt die Musik, dieses tiefemotionale in ihren Grundsätzen depressive Weltbild.

Die nächste tote Band - Zufall oder spricht man über Tote einfach besser? Wie auch immer, Modern Life Is War werden zurecht von vielen als die beste Hardcoreband aller Zeiten angepriesen - unter den Top 5 im modernen Hardcore steht sie zumindest bei mir.

2. Shipwreck AD
Kein großes Gerede, wo die Worte für sich selbst sprechen können. "Abyss" ist ein unglaublich gutes Konzeptalbum, zusammen mit den Texten wird es zu einem der besten Hardcorealben aller Zeiten.

My sanity shredded by the rays.

1. La Dispute
Ohne Worte - das Beste, was ich seit Ewigkeiten gehört habe.
" At times I’ve shouted out unprovoked, at the world and you,
Just to see if the people around me react.
Sometimes I think they’re all acting,
At times I’m scared that I’m acting too. Like,
My movements or stage directions?
Was that a change in topic or a beat in a scene?
Have I been taking my emotional cues from a script I wrote at sixteen?
Maybe I just think about it all so much
That that the fear stays close to all the ghosts I’ve touched.
Makes me question
Was it love or just lust?
Caked in blood or old rust?
I don’t know.
Don’t we remember all the moments we remember the best
Framed in poems and in pictures, sang aloud in refrains?
Does this cycle of pain and disdain for the past
Not work exactly the same?
Maybe it’s just as much about what comes our way as it is about how we react.
Just as much about the things that we’ve still got as it is about the things we lack.
I know we won’t always keep around all we feel we need-
some are fading in frames, some were born to leave-
But if we’re still here, and we still breathe,
I guess we’ve still got time to figure it out,

Das alles sind natürlich nur Beispiele, es gibt so viel an guter Musik da draußen, die man nie hören wird. Von daher klingt eine solche Top-Scheiße ziemlich arrogant und engstirnig. Aber es geht ja auch gar nicht um das Katalogiseren und Einordnen, Musik ist dafür viel zu subjektiv. Der einzige Sinn dieses kleinen Textes ist es, einigen Menschen dort draußen neue Anregungen für ihren musikalischen Horizont zu geben. Wenn auch einem da draußen eine der genannten Bands gefällt, hat sich das Schreiben doch schon gelohnt.
